Chest of Drawers Makeover

Dieses praktische Schubladending stammt auch aus meinem Elternhaus und obwohl ich es so unendlich praktisch fand, fand ich es auch etwas hässlich, so wie es war. Wasserflecken sind nicht so meins. Ran ging's also ans Basteln!

This very practical chest of drawers is also from my parents' house and even though I thought it was so incredibly handy, I also thought it was a bit ugly as it was. Water stains are just not my kind of thing. So I went ahead and got crafty!





Zuerst wollte ich die Schubladen einkleiden. Dazu die Vorderseite auf ein Blatt Papier legen und die Umrisse sowie das Loch nachzeichnen (schwarze Linien). Dann die Linien verlängern und wegschneiden (im Bild die roten Linien).

Firstly I wanted to cover the drawers. To do this, I put the front onto a piece of paper and drew around the outside as well as the hole (black lines). Then extend the lines and cut away (the red lines in the picture).






Jetzt die Vorderfläche auf die Schublade kleben und darauf achten, dass die Löcher übereinander sind. Das eingeschnittene Papier nach innen biegen und mit Klebeband befestigen - wie man sieht, habe ich dazu die Schublade auseinandergefaltet, damit ich besser rankomme.

Now stick the paper onto the front of the drawer and make sure that the two holes are aligned. Fold the cuts in the paper inwards and adhere with tape - as you can see, I unfolded the drawer a bit for that so I could reach it better.




Jetzt alle Seiten festkleben.

Now adhere all the sides.



Die Oberfläche habe ich mit einem Rest Geschenkpapier beklebt, den ich mal von meiner lieben Schwester bekommen habe. Die überstehenden Enden mit einem Cuttermesser wegschneiden.

I covered the surface with a bit of wrapping paper that I had once gotten from my beloved sister. Cut away the excess with a stanley knife.




Zuletzt habe ich aus dem überschüssigen Geschenkpapier sowie laminiertem weißen Papier kleine Schildchen geschnitten. Die weißen Labels beschriften und mit doppelseitigem Klebeband befestigen - so kriegt man sie wieder ab, sollte man umsortieren!

At last, I cut labels from the left over wrapping paper as well as white laminated paper. I labelled the labels (ha!) and adhered them using double sided tape - if I ever want to reorganise the chest of drawers, I can easily remove them!





Und fertig! Ein fast neues Schubladenregal für nur ein paar Cent!

And done! An almost new chest of drawers for almost no money!

White Blouses Are Not Just For The Office

Endlich ist es hier so richtig warm - zu warm für Strumpfhosen jedenfalls! Ich muss mir nur noch eine Taktik ausdenken, wie ich mit so einem Kleid Fahrrad fahre, ohne ungewünschte Einblicke zu geben! Aidan und ich waren hier nur kurz einkaufen, das Schöne an einer größeren Stadt ist ja, dass man kein Auto braucht um einkaufen zu fahren. Nur kurz über die Straße, zack, fertig.




Finally, it is really warm here - too warm for tights! I just yet have to find a way to cycle in short dresses like this without revealing too much! Aidan and I went shopping quickly as you can tell - the great thing about living in a larger city is that you don't need a car to go shopping. Just down the road, done.



Heute war ich schon auf dem Stoffmarkt (muss doch den Relaunch von Katinka vorbereiten!), hab gearbeitet und viel Tee getrunken. Ein normaler, schöner Tag also! Was habt ihr noch so vor?




Today I've already been to a fabric market (have to prepare the relaunch of Katinka, after all!), worked and had lots of tea. A normal, nice day! What are you up to?

A Photo an Hour in June

Heute nehme ich euch mit durch meinen Tag - genauer gesagt, letzten Dienstag. Aidan und ich hatten so gut wie frei, und ich habe den Tag echt genossen. Aber seht selbst!

Today, I'll take you with on my day - last Tuesday, to be precise. Aidan and I had the day almost completely off and I really enjoyed it. But see for yourself!

7.30am Guten Morgen! // Good morning!


8.30am Erste Tasse Tee des Tages. // First cup of tea of the day.


9.30am E-Mails beantworten. // Answering e-mails.


10.30am Frühstück. // Breakfast.


11.30am Blog-Artikel schreiben. // Writing blog posts.


12.30pm Geschenke einpacken. // Wrapping gifts.


1.30pm Zurechtmachen, um das Haus zu verlassen. // Getting ready to leave the house.


3pm  Kaffee und Kuchen mit einer Freundin im Park. // Coffee and cake with a friend in the park.


4pm Blumen sammeln zum Pressen (siehe hier). // Collecting flowers to press (see here).


5pm Wieder zuhause, Post öffnen. // Back home, opening mail.


6pm Ein paar Zeichnungen einscannen. // Scanning some drawings.


7pm Briefe zur Post bringen. // Bringing letters to the post office.


8pm Aidan und ich hatten was zu feiern, also gingen wir mal essen! // Aidan and I had something to celebrate and went out for dinner!


Danach sind wir nach Hause spaziert und haben unsere vollen Bäuche aufs Sofa gehauen - nicht sehr fotogen! // Afterwards we walked home and just dragged our full bellies onto the sofa - not very photogenic!

Layering Dresses

Ich bin über das noch-nicht-so-heiße Wetter eigentlich mehr als glücklich, da ich ein großer Fan von Schichten bin. Ich mag es einfach, Teile immer wieder neu mit-, unter- und übereinander zu kombinieren, und Hemdkleider eignen sich da zum Beispiel sehr gut.



I'm quite happy about the not-so-warm weather here, as I'm a huge fan of layering. I simply like to combine the items in my wardrobe in all possible ways, and shirt dresses are just excellent in this discipline.




Mittlerweile haben Aidan und ich eine gute Quelle für englischen Tee hier in Berlin ausfindig machen können - und zwar einen Großhandel für indisches Essen! Der Laden gleicht mehr einer Lagerhalle mit Reis in 20-kg-Säcken, aber es gibt PG Tips zu kaufen!



Finally, Aidan and I have discovered a good source for English tea here in Berlin - a wholesale for Indian food! The store is more like a warehouse with its 20 kg bags of rice, but they do have PG tips and that's all that counts.

4 Ways to Wear a White Dress

Ein weißes Kleid im Kleiderschrank ist für mich unverzichtbar - dieses Exemplar ist von Vero Moda und schon seit 3 Jahren mein treuer Begleiter. Unzählige Male schon getragen, hier nun also 4 Möglichkeiten!

Für den Winter: Shirt drunter und langen Cardigan drüber, dann bleibt man schön warm!

With a second, unbuttoned dress overneath. Double dots are a nice gimmick as well as scarf and shoes in the same colour!



Mit einem Mantel drüber, oder wie hier, mit einem Kleid das als Mantel dient. Ähnlich wie die Idee oben, aber anders gestylt mit Hut, blauer Strumpfhose und Gürtel und etwas weniger mädchenhaft!

With a coat, or as I did it here with a dress that acts as a coat. Similar to the idea above but styled differently with a hat, blue tights and belt and a little less girly!
